Farmers task govt on food production

The Poultry Association of Nigeria, South-West Zone, has called for increased commitment to improve the quality and quantity of food production in the country.PAN South-West Chairman, Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, said in a statement in Lagos on Sunday that the developed countries planned ahead of challenges, hence they dont experience food shortages.Oduntan observed that Nigerians leaders lacked a long term plan, noting that there was a need for attitudinal change by the government in the agriculture sector.He said PAN had learnt from the countries that plan by inviting investors from Europe, Asia and America to exhibit new technology in poultry farming and avenues through which food production could be boosted.He said, The people invited include crop farmers, manufacturers and suppliers of raw materials, poultry producers, processors, wholesalers, retailers, feed millers and other companies providing a variety of services such as financing, transporting, warehousing, research and development.The poultry exhibition is meant to establish close links between poultry farmers, input suppliers and all stakeholders. We will be looking at how to improve on food production through poultry farming at Onikolobo in Abeokuta, Ogun State. It is geared towards committing the government and investors to transformation in Nigerian agriculture.
