Interswitch canvasses cashless card culture to boost economy

TO sustain the Central Bank of Nigerian's (CBN) cashless policy to adopt cards as means of payment in Nigeria, Interswitch an electronics payment transaction and switching firm, has announced the commencement of the 2nd edition of its Verve national promo.The promo is designed to encourage and reward Nigerians, who comply with CBN cashless policy.According to a statement issued by Interswitch and signed by the Director, Payment Solutions, Mr. Charles Ifedi, the Verve promo had become expedient as a means of encouraging existing cardholders and particularly new cardholders 'who are yet to obtain their Verve cards to embrace the cashless culture prior to the commencement of the CBN's cashless policy.'The previous edition of the Verve promo held in 2010 accommodated both existing and new cardholders. 'This year's edition of the Verve 'Get & Win' is targeted at those who are yet to request and pick up their cards from the banks.' However, the promo also provides a window of opportunity for existing Verve cardholders to participate in the draw.Explaining the schematics for the draws, he said that new cardholders would have to request their cards at the bank, activate it and collect instant gifts at the bank branch.'Once that is done, the cardholder should activate the new card in order to qualify for the draw.'Existing Verve cardholders would need to carry out five transactions with their cards on ATMs, PoS, web or mobile channels on the Interswitch network every two weeks in order to qualify for the draw. He stressed that Verve cardholders could qualify for the draws, either by activating a new Verve card, or by using an existing Verve card to carry out five transactions every two weeks.Instant gift item available to new cardholders include branded pens, card wallets, t-shirts, MP3 players, flash drives and notebook jotters, while new card activation and usage during the promo period qualifies cardholders for the bi-weekly draw and a chance to win several fantastic items such as iPads, deep freezers, power generators, 32' LCD television sets and BlackBerry smart phones.The Verve promo runs from October 24 ' December 16, 2011 with 19 banks participating in the promo. These are Ecobank, Enterprise Bank, Equatorial Trust Bank, First City Monumental Bank, Fidelity Bank, FinBank and FirstBank.Others are Intercontinental Bank, Keystone Bank, Mainstreet Bank, Oceanic Bank, Skye Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Sterling Bank, United Bank for Africa, Union Bank, Unity Bank, Wema Bank and Zenith Bank.
