How to stop Boko Haram, others, by Suntai

Published by Guardian on Mon, 31 Oct 2011

TARABA State Governor, Danbaba Suntai, has called on clerics in the country to intensify the teaching of 'good morals' in their followers, stressing that this proposition is the panacea to the current insecurity posed to the country by such outlaws as the Boko Haram sect members and militants in the Niger Delta.Suntai stated this at the weekend through his Chief of Staff, Garvey Yawel, at a two-day 'World Peace Workshop' organised by the Taraba State Council on Inter-religious Affairs in collaboration with the Islamic Organisation for World Peace against terrorism. He said: 'Peace as the name implies, is the panacea for any development both nationally and internationally especially among the followers of the two major religions in the world, Christianity and Islam'.Concerned that 'terrorism has severely frustrated our growth and development as a people and must not be allowed to continue as it has become a 'global monster in the world today', Suntai said his administration would continue to place 'high premium on security matters.'This, he said, is for the 'purpose of ensuring that the citizens live peacefully to be able to carry out their businesses without fear of any danger'.Citing current events across the globe particularly in places 'like Libya, Middle East, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq' religious leaders, the governor argued, 'must work in one accord to get rid of the ugly monster called terrorism'.He added: 'No development or significant progress would ever be made in a society characterised by violence occasioned by the doings of terrorists'.The establishment of the inter-religious council by his administration, he observed, 'has helped in no small measure in educating the followers of the two religions on basic principles of peaceful living through collaboration with leaders of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Muslim Council'.He pledged that his administration 'will do everything humanly possible to ensure that our people continue to live in peace and harmony with one another for the overall progress and development of the state and the nation at large'.
