Nurses, midwives oppose health bill

FORUM of Federal Health Institution Nurses and Midwives has appealed to PresidentGoodluck Jonathannot to sign the current Health Bill into law 'because it is one sided and does not represent the interest of all health care providers.'National President of the Forum, Nana Takain, who made the appeal in Gombe at the weekend, said signing the bill into law 'is likely to generate industrial disharmony,' adding that, 'Mr. President should make effort to avoid any industrial disharmony in the health sector.'Takain said that at the Forum's meeting in Bida, Niger State, participants reexamined all areas of fundamental human cum workers rights and resolved to continue to uphold them.The Forum also urged respect for all global human rights protocols to which Nigeria is a signatory and those enshrined in the country's 'to avoid a gross violation of workers' rights.'Takain said dialogue and negotiation should be embraced as the best means of conflict resolution rather than engaging in practices that violate workers' rights.
