Robbers kill policeman, worker in P'Harcourt

ARMED robbers struck in Port Harcourt on Monday, killing a police corporal and an employee of Everyday Emporium, a popular shopping centre at Rumuola.The hoodlums were said to have attacked the vehicle conveying the deceased and a police escort who were moving an undisclosed amount of money from the Everyday Emporium to the Everyday supermarket.An eyewitness told our correspondent that the bandits shot several times into the vehicle, killing the policeman and worker before escaping with the money to an unknown destination.Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam, explained that the incident took place at about 9.30am.Ugwuegbulam said apart from the two persons that lost their lives during the incident, two other policemen in the escort vehicle sustained gunshot injuries.He said, At about 9.30am today, some employees of Everyday Emporium were conveying an undisclosed amount of cash from the Everyday Emporium to the Everyday Supermarket, GRA in Port Harcourt with police escort from Operations Department.While at Umurelu Street behind Rumuola Junction, they were ambushed by the hoodlums who fired several shots into both vehicles, resulting in the death of one staff members of the supermarket and a police corporal. Two other policemen in the escort vehicle had gunshot wounds.
