Banditry: Katsina to re-launch moribund village Security Council

Augustine Okezie, KatsinaGovernor Aminu Bello Masari has declared the preparedness of the state government to re-launch the moribund Village Security Council as part of measure aimed at fast tracking the presence of security architecture in the rural communities and stem banditry attacks on vulnerable villagers.Masari also decried the non-implementation of the defunct 1976 Local Government Reforms which has encouraged the usurpation of the functions of traditional rulers and by extension led to the collapse of village security committees.The Governor who made this disclosures at the flag off of Nigerian Army Super camp in Faskari, however assured that the present APC administration in the state have concluded arrangements to revive the village security committees for intelligence gathering backed by the traditional rulers in the 361 political wards in the state.He said the state government will go through the archives to reconstitute the committees to ensure that security is restored at the grassroots.READ ALSO:Katsina warns public servants on social mediaWe acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian Army in restoring some level of normalcy in the ongoing fight against banditry in the state.However the fight is not yet over, hence more efforts are needed to address the insecurity challenges once and for all.He further appreciated the activities of the military in the super camp with regards to the ongoing fight against banditry, which he said will restore peace in katsina state and other states in the North West zoneThe General officer Commanding the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General A.E Arigbanzo in his remark at the occasion commended Governor Aminu Bello Masari for the current synergy between the military, the state government and other security agencies in the state in the fight against banditry.He described the ongoing efforts to revive village security committees as a good approach for the success against banditry, adding that the support by the state government had been helping the military in the discharge its constitutional mandate.
