NFF revisits Code of Conduct for Eagles

Published by Guardian on Tue, 01 Nov 2011

THE often-muted idea of a code of conduct for the senior national team will be introduced to the team before a new coach takes over the team, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has declared.According to the NFF, the idea of the code of conduct is to ensure that the new coach does not suffer the fate of his predecessors, some of who accused the players of discipline and not committed to Nigeria's cause.Speaking on the issue, NFF President, Aminu Maigari, told journalists over the weekend that the players would be made to sign the code, adding sacked coach, Samson Siasia, faced a lot of trouble from the players because they not controlled by any law while in camp.He noted that the likes of Osaze Odemwingie, Mikel Obi, Vincent Enyeama and Victor Anichebe freely exhibited behaviors that were inimical to the interest of the team while in camp, a situation that forced Siasia to clamp down on them.He said: 'A code of conduct must be introduced in the Super Eagles right now. We must ensure that indiscipline in camp is put to a stop if we want the oncoming coach to have full control of his team.'The players contributed to Siasia's sack because their conduct did not help the coach.'We had to sack Siasia because he breached the contract he signed with the federation. He read the provisions of the contract very well before signing it, so despite his efforts in trying to transform the team, for which we must give him credit, he failed to fulfill his own part of the contract by failing to qualify the Super Eagles for the Nations Cup.
