Include leadership education in school curriculum

A religious and non-governmental organisation, Daystar Christian Centre, has charged the government to include leadership education in schools curriculum. The senior pastor of the church, Mr. Sam Adeyemi, made this call at a seminar tagged, "Excellence in Leadership," organised by the church. He explained that every country had its own problems, which demanded a curriculum that would help to tackle them.The pastor stated that it was necessary for the country to include leadership education in schools if its problems were to be solved.Adeyemi said Nigeria would only progress by finding a lasting solution to its major problem, which he identified as bad leadership. "People in positions of authority have no fundamental training about leadership. We use a curriculum which does not fit into the present situation of the country," he said. The cleric added that practical steps were needed to solve the problems of leadership."Our leaders lack vision and the right ability that suit a developing economy like Nigeria," he said. Adeyemi also wondered why many Nigerians did not know their rights, and would not stand firm against bad leadership in the country. "Most Nigerians are cheated out of what they already have, which gives opportunity for slavery. We are ruled by politics of ignorance giving opportunity for slavery and exploitation," the pastor said. He noted that the trainings would expand leaders capacity to influence change by stretching their ingenuity for more efficiency.
