Carnival good for Nigeria's image - Mega Dee Abodedele

Published by Tribune on Wed, 02 Nov 2011

A Nigerian media practitioners in South Africa, Mega Dee Abobodedele, has advocated the staging of Nigerian Carnival in major countries where the nation maintains a diplomatic presence.Mega Abodedele who made this known in an chat with Tribune Tourism Magazine during the hosting of the Nigerian Carnival in London said that it would go a long way at shoring up the nation's battered image.'As a media professional and public relation consultant based in South Africa, I have seen the hosting of Carnival as a blessing and a potent instrument to showcase to the world the real Nigerian in us. This will also tell the western media that we are not the kind of people they think we are and that the picture being projected of us is fake."I, therefore, call on the Federal Government to empower the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) to commence the hosting of Nigerian cultural'tourism carnival in major countries where wemaintain diplomatic presence.'Mr Abodedele pointed out that Chief Olusegun Runsewe, the Director'General, NTDC, had deep understanding of how to organise such carnivals to achieve the targeted aim.'I specifically mentioned Chief Runsewe's name because of his antecedents and credibility which aided him in organising CHOGHOM in Nigeria, the 2006 Abuja Carnival which was adjudged the best so far. After his removal as the chairman, the Carnival would have been better if Chief Runsewe was involved. Nigerian must learn how to allow who can perform to do the task.'Mr Abodedele, who brought his daughter and his niece to 'the culture and custom of our fathers,' said he had to come all the way from South Africa with my family for the to see our cultural pride."
