Court grants Baba Suwe conditional bail

JUSTICE Yetunde Idowuof a Lagos High Courtsitting in Ikeja, on Tuesday, granted conditional bail in the sum of N500,000 to the popular actor and comedian, Babatunde Omidina, also known as Baba Suwe.According to the judge, the bail will commence on Friday, when the 15-day detention order earlier granted by the Federal High Court, Lagos, expires on the condition that he does not excrete anything identified as hard drugs.Justice Idowu also ordered that he must produce a surety in the like sum, adding that address of the surety should be verified by the Chief Registrar of the court and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).It also ordered that Baba Suwe's passport be deposited with the Chief Registrar of the court.Justice Idowu, while ruling, said 'no enactment of anybody or agency is superior to the constitution of Nigeria and he is due for immediate and conditional bail if he does not excrete any substance that is in compliance with the nature of narcotics by November 4.'The case was adjourned till Friday, for report of compliance and a date of judgment since there was no report that could clearly indicate how long it would take for the alleged substance to be excretedBaba Suwe, who was brought to court by the NDLEA in a white Urvan bus with registration number FG 61 T02 around 8.00 a.m, was ushered into the court room by officers of the agency around 9.30 a.mWhen the case came up for hearing, Baba Suwe told the court that he had been feeding himself because the agency's food usually came late, but added that he had not been harassed in any way and that he was allowed to use his medications regularly.
