Awards N250m motor parks contractOYO State government, on Monday, announced plans to probe the procurement of transformers estimated at N1.5 billion by the immediate past Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala's administration for the 33 local government councils in the state. It has also concluded arrangements to rehabilitate some state-owned hospitals and look into the procurement of equipment in those health institutions as claimed by the Alao-Akala's administration.Addressing reporters at the end of the state's Executive Council Meeting, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Adeolu Akande, said the probe became necessary to ascertain the number of transformers and equipment purchased by the immediate past administration.Akande said despite the claim by the past government to have spent about N1.5 billion on the procurement of 15 units of transformers for each of the 33 local government councils in the state, residents of the state are still complaining of irregular power supply, necessitated by shortage of transformers.``The state executive council agreed that there should be state-wide auditing of transformers procured by the immediate past government in collaboration with the local government councils at the cost over N1.5 billion. There are lots of complaints about these transformers. People were saying that they were not supplied; that they were not to specification and that some of them could not even be located. So council decided that there should be an auditing in both quantity and quality of the transformers supplied by the immediate past administration,'' he said. And to address the problem of traffic congestion within the Ibadan metropolis, the state government has awarded the contract for the construction of ultra-modern inter-city motor parks at the cost of N250 million. The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Yunus Akintunde, who disclosed this, said the projects would be completed within the next 30 days.Akintunde explained that the first phase of the motor parks will involve resurfacing and drainage while the second phase of the project will include structural and civil works, provision of infrastructure including police post, kiosks, toilets and boreholes.'The idea is to ease transportation. This government has zero tolerance for illegal parking. Government spent a lot of money to dualize some of our roads, not for parking purposes but to give the privilege of having free flow of traffic on the roads.'He explained that all the motor parks along the Iwo Road interchange would be relocated to Temidire Park along New Ife Road, while those along Beere-Molete-Challenge would also be relocated to Podo Park on the Old Lagos Road.He added that the idea was to decongest the Ibadan metropolis of the usual heavy traffic along Iwo Road interchange and other densely populated areas of Ibadan.
