Akwa Ibom, Rivers dominate Eastern States' squash tourney

AKWA Ibom State and Rivers State players dominated the eight Eastern States' squash tournament, which ended at the Aba Sports Club over the weekend.The tournament, sponsored by the Nigerian Breweries Plc, had competitions in five categories including the Men's Veterans, Ladies Open, Men's Open, Club Veteransand Club Closed.At the end of the competition, Adenuga Moye from Rivers State won the Men's Veteran title, Akwa Ibom State's Grace Udofia won the Ladies Open, her male counterpart, Esetang Esetang won the Men's Open, while Mazi Okeke took the Club Veteran's title, with the Club Closed crown going to Abia State's Emma Ahumibe.They winners got prizes ranging from refrigerators, television Sets and electric generators.Speaking at the event, NB Plc's Public Affairs Manager (Aba), Emete Tonukari, disclosed that participants in the amateur/professional squash tournament weredrawn from the six eastern states of Abia, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo and Rivers.Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of NB Plc, Nicolaas Vervelde, represented by the Aba Brewery Manager, Ukeje Udah, said his company sponsored the tournament as part of its sustainable corporate social responsibility to build bridges of friendship and national unity.
