Ondo 2020: PDPs victory will lead to restructuring, says Secondus, others

Published by The Nation on Sat, 12 Sep 2020

Osagie Otabor, AkureThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged residents of Ondo State not to be cajoled to vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress because it would make an easy ride for presidency to come to the South West.It said a vote for the PDP would lead to change and restructuring of the country. Those that spoke at the rally held at the MKO Abiola Freedom Park in Akure, the Ondo State capital included National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, Governor Seyi Makinde.Fayose and other notable leaders in the zone were not present at the campaign.Apart from Governor Makinde, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto and State Chairman of the PDP, Fatai Adams, Prince Segun Oni amongst others were also at the campaign ground. However, many leaders of the party in the South West as well as governors elected on the platform of the party especially from the South South and South East were not in attendance. Some PDP leaders who pleaded anonymity said the absence of some South West PDP leaders was a reflection of the partys crisis in the region. The PDP leaders accused Governor Makinde to have singlehandedly constituted the campaign council without carrying other stakeholders along. They stated that the Ondo PDP was cut between power play in the party ahead of the 2023 presidential election.Speaking at the rally, Governor Tambuwal urged the people not to allow the party to be rigged out of the polls.Tambuwal said the ruling APC was already in disarray both in Ondo State and at the National level. He urged the Ondo PDP members to consolidate on the victory recorded in last years general election.Governor Makinde said the PDP could repeat the feat he recorded in Oyo State when he defeated the APC even when the PDP was not in power at any levels in the state.Makinde urged the people not to be deceived that electoral victory for the APC would bring about Yoruba presidency. He said the APC would be defeated as he defeated the party in Oyo State in 2019 adding that the election was about continued servitude or freedom of the people.READ ALSO:Ondo 2020: APC accuses PDP of destroying billboards, postersOndo PDP Chairman, Fatai Adams, said the party would put an end to government of Imo and Ibadan in Ondo State. He promised quality education, reduced tuition fees and quality health care services.Prince Secondus cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari against rigging the polls for the APC.His word, We urge you to vote out bad Governor that turned Ondo State to family business. The only thing is for Buhari to conduct free and fair election.
