Ondo 2020: Im not cash-strapped, says Deputy Gov

Published by The Nation on Sun, 13 Sep 2020

By Osagie Otabor, AkureCandidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Ondo Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi, has denied comments by some party chieftains that he is cash- strapped.Agboola said it was untrue that he could not source fund to launch his governorship campaigns. Some chieftains of the ZLP, who pleaded anonymity, had said those that pledged to sponsor Agboolas campaign have not released funds, which was why the party was yet to launch its campaigns. The chieftains said political activities in the ZLP were in limbo due to lack of proper funding, which was why the party couldnt erect billboards and place posters across the 18 local governments. One of them said: As at now, we are stranded in ZLP. Before he joined the party, he told us that he has N10 billion to finance his election but I doubt if he has spent up to N10million since he defected from PDP to ZLP.Go to all local governments, you will hardly see his billboards and posters. Even in his own local government, Ese-Odo, Agboola Ajayi billboards and posters are scanty. Our prayer is that he returns to Akure with huge money so that we can kick start our campaigns because this is very disappointing. It is disheartening that 30 days to the election, ZLP is yet to appoint Director-General, set up committees and draw up plans for the campaign. But Agboola, who spoke through his Media Adviser, Allen Sowore, said the fake report was sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.Agboola said the report was aimed at discouraging his huge supporters.READ ALSO:We won’t allow Fayose hijack Ekiti PDP, says factional chairmanHe said the ZLP has become a movement ready to confine the government of one man, his wife, son, clan and clique to the dust bin of history in Ondo State. The Deputy Governor said the greatest resources required in such a democratic adventure were clear sense of mission, grace of God and the unalloyed support and goodwill of the people. He stated all logistics, strategies and resources required to win the October 10 governorship election in favour of the party were available and would be deployed without hindrance. He said: The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu have become so desperate because of the imminent defeat staring at them. The people of Ondo State and the general public should be rest assured that all the shenanigans and chicanery of Akeredolu and APC would bring them nothing but failure and shame because the good people of Ondo State have already taken the right decision to break free from the imposed hardship and economic quagmire orchestrated by the bad policies of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his co adventurers in government.Akeredolus present spending habit which gives an impression that Ondo State is his personal fiefdom shall be halted as the people shall speak on October 10 through their votes.
