SSS parades 3 suspects over Oct 1 nationwide blackout

THE Department ofState Security Service(SSS), on Thursday, paraded three suspects, Donald Joshua, Dio Ifiemi and Edi Howell, who allegedly attacked an Agip Oil gas pipeline that led to the disruption of power supply nationwide on October 1.Parading the suspects before newsmen in Abuja, the spokesperson of the service, Mrs Marilyn Ogar, alleged that the suspects blown up the pipeline in Nembe, Bayelsa State, to force the company to contract the surveillance of the pipeline to them.She added that the pipeline was blown up with dynamites provided by one of the suspects, who perpetrated the attack with another suspect.According to her, one of the suspects contacted the oil company to demand for gratification after the act, adding that the suspects had confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court soon.'On October 1, 2011, an Agip Oil Company pipeline in Nembe, Bayelsa State, was blown up, resulting in shortfall in gas supply and subsequent disruption in power supply nationwide.'Consequently, the SSS received tangible information from well-meaning members of the public, which led to the apprehension of three suspects,' Ogar stated.Two of the suspects confessed that they were involved in the attack on the pipeline, saying that Agip had refused to compensate the Okroma community, despite exploring oil for decades from four oil wells in the area.The third suspect, however, denied complicity, saying that he was negotiating peace between the company and the other suspects for a fee.
