Ekiti govt, workers on collision course 'Over PFA administrator

Published by Tribune on Fri, 04 Nov 2011

Civil servants inEkiti State and thestate government may be heading for a collision course over the pension fund administrator that has been appointed for the management of the workers' retirement savings.Nigerian Tribune reliably gathered that the workers were smarting from what they said was the state government's unilateral decision on the pension fund administrator (PFA) for the workers' contributory pension scheme. Some of the workers told the Nigerian Tribune that they had collected the forms, 'but we are just keeping them at home, pending the time we would agree on the PFA.'They claimed that it was not fair for the government to unilaterally thrust a PFA at the workers, saying that 'we acknowledge that the programme is good, but the manner of implementation is what we are quarrelling with.'According to the source, 'the workers have written a letter (on Tuesday) to the state governor, rejecting the arrangement of the issue of PFA.'We want to know the pedigree of who we are saving our money with. We want to know where they are coming from and we want to even know if our money is safe with them.'We expect them to give us a number of PFAs for us to choose from. We do not know how they arrived at the one they sent to us. There is no response yet to our letter; we are still expecting their response. We need to be educated on the terms, conditions and warranty attached to the PFA. PFA should be by choice or mutual agreement between the labour and the state government.'On whether the matter could degenerate to a labour dispute, one of the sources said 'we've sent a letter and if there is no response, it will lead to labour dispute.
