Kogi gov poll: 41,272 voters disqualified ' Jega

AS the people ofKogi State preparefor the December 3 governorship election, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has said out of 1,363,844 registered voters, only 1,322,572 would be allowed to vote in the December election.The chairman, who was represented by the national supervising commissioner in charge of Kogi, Nasarawa and Plateau states, Dr Abdulkadri Oniyangi, during the official presentation of the updated voter register in Lokoja, on Thursday, noted that his commission was set to conduct a free, fair and credible election in Kogi State in December 3.He stressed that 41,272 people who registered during the actual registration exercise had been disqualified for multiple registration across the state.Jega added that anyone whose name was not found in the updated register would not be allowed to vote, adding that Kogi was a test case in the renewed determination of the commission to conduct an election that met the yearnings of Nigerians and international bodies.The chairman, who used the opportunity to commend the efforts of security agents on the role they played during the last general election, said they must redouble their efforts, adding that the nation expected more from them.In his remark, the new Kogi Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Ahmad Mkma, promised to provide a level playing field for all political parties in the state and called on all the people of Kogi State to join hands with INEC to make the exercise a success.He said the commission had taken the first positive step by publishing the voter register and making it available to the stakeholders in the state, while he urged all the parties to sensitise their supporters.
