Pensioners seal off IGI office in Lagos

THERE was a milddrama at the headoffice of the Industrial and General Insurance Company ( IGI) as pensioners of the Federal Ministry of Forestry, Ibadan, stormed the company's premises at Adeola Hopewell Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Thursday, to collect their seven years pension arrears recently paid by the Federal Government.They were, however, disappointed when they were told that their money was not ready. The group, led by Mr Sina Rosanwo, immediately sealed off the company's gate for over three hours, preventing visitors from gaining access into the company.The pensioners, who came from Ibadan were angry with the way they were being treated by the insurance company. They told the Nigerian Tribune that their colleagues in other branches in Nigeria had been paid two months ago when the Federal Government approved the payment of their seven years pension arrears.They said their colleagues were suffering similar fate at the hands of IGI until they moved their pension account from IGI to other insurance company. 'We regret still staying with IGI Insurance,' the pensioners cried.Theelderly pensioners placed placards at the gate of the IGI office with inscriptions, accusing the management of IGI of being corrupt, wicked and lacking integrity. The management quickly called in the pensioners for a dialogue which resulted in the payment of three years arrear pension out of seven years.
