Motorists urge FERMA to rehabilitate Kaduna-Kano highway

Published by Tribune on Fri, 04 Nov 2011

Some motorists and other road users have urged the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to rehabilitate the Kaduna -Kano road to ease the pain of road users. This advice came recently in Kano at the inauguration of its preventive road and surveillance programme on the Abuja-Kaduna highway. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano, Alhaji Ali Tamburawa lamented over the number of people losing their lives in car accidents on the Kaduna-Kano highway. He appealed to the agency to respond to the emergency reports on the potholes and craters which litter the road, particularly on the bridge at Tamburawa town in Kano State.Similarly, the District Head of Dawakin Kudu, Alhaji Yusuf Bayero, also stressed the need for the state government to rehabilitate the Tamburawa bridge along the highway. While reacting to the accident which claimed five lives recently, he said he was deeply touched by incessant reports of accidents on the bridge.Bayero, who noted that the bridge was on a federal highway, said there was an urgent need for an immediate response from the state government to intervene. The traditional ruler also urged wealthy individuals and organisations to complement the government's effort in providing social services by embarking on philanthropic activities.NAN recalled that the Tamburawa bridge had claimed lives following a ghastly accident which broke down the rails of the bridge.
