Irele pupils get LG largesse

The Chairman, Caretaker Cornmittee of Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mr Akinbola Oluwatobi, has distributed about 10, 000 modern textbooks, 30, 000 exercise books to primary school pupils in the area.He also gave out hundreds of learning aids for pupils of the public primary schools in the council to make learning more conducive for them.Apart from this, the chairman also used the occasion to empower the parents of the pupils by distributing grarnmazone chemicals, cutlasses, shovels and motorcycles to some farmers, while some women got grinding machines, sewing machines and generators sets.The council's boss, who said all the items distributed cost the council about N9million, described education as the bedrock of any society and that no investment in the sector could be a waste.Oluwatobi, while distributing the materials on the occasion, that was attended by the state Commissioner for Education, Mr Remi Olatubora, said his council's efforts were geared towards boosting primary education in the local government.He encouraged the pupils to face their studies because education remained the only weapon they needed to fight poverty and ignorance.Meanwhile, indigenes of the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have sent a passionate appeal to the state government to find a lasting solution to the continual deterioration in the standard of education in the riverside area.The people, under the aegis of Marine Klub of Ilajeland, also stressed the need for the government to provide materials that would make teaching and learning conducive in both the primary and secondary schools in the area.
