Eclectic style, Smile plus Attitude' that's Sasha

Published by Guardian on Fri, 04 Nov 2011

NIGERIA's Queen of rap, Anthonia Yetunde Alabi (a.k.a Sasha P), is indeed one of the best-dressed female artistes in the country. She obviously has a great eye for fashion and dresses her body type. Sasha makes fashion work for her.The rapper's style can only be described as eclectic ' a combination of different styles. Eclectic style is not about convention or tradition; it is about uniqueness and personal signature. It is everything from a rock chic to classic, simple, funky and edgy. When you think of people whose style could be admired or emulated, not in terms of a particular piece of clothing or shoes, Sasha's is not far from it.Spy on the top-notch style Shop it right If you have Sasha's body shape, shop for fitted v-necks, scoops or boat-necks. Tops that are open at the dcollet area are most pleasing to the eye. Dressy, belted blouses and halters accentuate the waist. Single-breasted jacket, belted trench or princess cut jacket make for perfect outerwear, as they project the curvy figure. Get it right To get it right like Sasha, choose a dress with a belt or go with a wrap dress. They adjust to your unique curves. More so, picking the fabric of the dress is most important. Be sure the fabric is thick, thin and flimsy. Thicker, structured fabrics drape gracefully across the curves. Small-scale printed patterned dresses accent the curves, too.'Know your body. Wear your clothes, don't let your clothes wear you; be yourself. Don't be a fashion victim. Just because it is in, does not mean it works for you; and always invest in a great pair of shoes. You're never fully dressed without a smile,' Sasha advises.Rock 'n' RollWhen opting for the rock style, like the rapper, note that it's all about flow and comfort. You can wear the clothes to achieve this look, but unless you grab some attitude, you will only be a shadow of your potential. To get the right look, wear a smokey eye makeup, punk your short hair out with a teased top. Wiggle into those skintight leather pants. Slip into spike heels, the higher the better and wear a tight black top, preferably sleeveless. Add metallic jewelry such as earrings, necklaces and tons of bracelets to complete the rock chick style.Bright colourWho says you can't brighten up your day with colours' Get a glimpse of Sasha's style; go for bright colours and different patterns or textures; you can even try mixing prints.Belt it upWearing a belt will make any dress look instantly more put-togetherExperiment with your hairstyle It is only natural that the celeb experiments. She says, 'it's a lot of mix and match, and Patrick and Bobby himself at Bobby's signature are just as adventurous as I am; so we rub minds and make it happen!' Dress it up, experiment'I think a person's style is a reflection of his/her personality. I totally love to dress up and don't like being in a box, so, I try different looks, but make sure it suits my figure and I feel like a million bucks,' the rapper intones. Shop to suit your style According to the artiste, 'I do my major shopping in the US because there are varieties of clothes, which tend to run bigger and (more) appropriate for my figure. There are also a number of shops in Lagos I step into from time to time.'Jack 'et' it upSteal from the artiste's style ' keep the most valued items from the earlier season and fuse them into a trans-seasonal look. To opt for First Lady of Hip-hop look, make sure you have your leather jacket at hand as well as the pair of skinny jeans and the all time winner ankle wedge boots. Play up your Rock chick vibe with additional jewelry or hair accessories for the desired fab factor.Go for the topsApart from her designs, Sasha loves Deola Sagoe and Lanre Da Silva Ajayi. She informs, 'I absolutely love their styles. They are different, adventurous and not everyone can pull it off.' Make it up When it comes to make up, Kashogi does it for her, and for her eyebrow, she goes to Nike Akande at Imagine in Ikoyi. Be healthy, be flawless To get her flawless skin, drink a lot of water, wipe and wash the entire make up off every night before going to bed. 'I use moisturisers and sunscreen before putting on my make up and the rest is just free styling. And don't forget a visit to 'Day Spa,' she adds. Keep it simple When it comes to accessory, Sasha tries to keep it simple. She says, 'When accessorising, always take off the last thing you put on.' Go eclectic by Sasha Fashion trends usually follow the eclectic style. Eclectic style is all about imagination, unexpected contrasts and delightful surprises. 'I wear Eclectic by Sasha,' she states. If you want to dress with an eclectic fashion, you have to choose or select clothing from different sources. You must also be daring enough to get out of your comfort zone and create a look of your own. The ability to look timeless is another thing that really matters in eclectic style. Sasha eclectic incorporates new pieces with the old ' recycled materials.
