Polly Morgan interview: 'Artists are struggling ' but I do get frustrated when people criticise the Government

I know that snakes feature heavily in Polly Morgan's art but I still do a double take when her partner, fellow artist Mat Collishaw, opens the door to the high-ceilinged converted south London pub where they live and work and I am greeted by a quite sizable python, standing guard.'I can handle dead snakes,' says Morgan, emerging from her studio looking slightly like Gillian Anderson, in paint-spattered pale blue overalls, a black gilet which she manages to make look cool, and her blonde hair pinned back in two plaits. 'If they were alive it would be a different story.' Banksy called Morgan 'Britain's hottest bird stuffer' when she first appeared on the art scene in the early Noughties ' Kate Moss and Courtney Love both bought her work. But she hasn't stuffed any birds for a while; she has been busy with snakes. In her new show How to Behave at Home, which opens today at The Bomb Factory in north London, she experiments with their form, moulding both taxidermy and sculptures of snakes to fit into constricting concrete and polystyrene structures.
