More politicians defect to LP, ACN in Ondo

Published by Punch on Sat, 05 Nov 2011

Prominent politicians have been defecting to the Action Congress of Nigeria and the ruling Labour Party in Ondo State in the last two weeks. This, our correspondent observed, had increased the tempo of political activities in the sunshine state. While many of the politicians were defecting to the LP in Odigbo Local Government Area on Thursday, leaders of the ACN received about 200 defectors at a rally held in honour of a leader of the party, Dr. Paul Akintelure, in Ore.Receiving the defectors, the chairman of the ACN in the state, Mrs. Jumoke Anifowose, said the gale of defections in the state was to the advantage of the party, as top politicians, especially the leaders of the LP, were already in its fold. She promised to do everything possible to ensure that a credible candidate would fly the partys flag in the 2013 governorship election in the state.Among those who defected was the Chief Imam of Odigbo Local Government Area, Alhaji Ismaila Olurimisi, who is also a respected politician in the area.Meanwhile, the deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, has assured defectors into the LP of the possibility of securing key political positions if they work assiduously for the success of the party in future polls.Olanusi gave the assurance while receiving the leaders of three different political groups (PDP, ACN and CPC) into the LP.He assured them that the doors of the party would not be closed against any politician willing to join it.He commended the defectors for availing themselves of the opportunity being offered by the LP to all the residents of the state to contribute their quota to the development of the state. He said, In this party, rooms are enough for all. Everybody has equal rights in this party. Therefore, if you work very hard for the victory of our party, you may likely be considered for vital political positions because its what you sow that you will reap.
