Fayemi Restates Commitment To Good Governance, Eight-Point Agenda

Published by Guardian on Sat, 05 Nov 2011

GOVERNOR Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has re-affirmed the state government's determination to double its achievement by giving more democracy dividends to people of the state as the administration kicks off its second year in office.Fayemi assured the people that his eight-point agenda which he unfolded last year at the inauguration of his administration, remained a document of his abiding covenant with them, pledging not to renege on any of them.Conscious of the pervasive poverty in the land, he urged his counterparts in other states to always put the welfare and security of the people first, stressing that doing this is not a favour to the people but a fulfilment of a sacred constitutional obligation. He reminded his political colleagues that only a visible presence of a qualitative economic change in the lives of Nigerians would be acceptable standard for determining whether or not the mandate to govern on behalf of the people has been justifiably utilised. He noted that this sacred obligation would not be achieved in an environment of disunity and urged the building of bridges of unity at all fronts. Also speaking, Senator Babafemi Ojodu implored the people to renew their faith in Fayemi's administration, and admonished them to be patient with the administration which he assured would fulfil all its promises.Meanwhile, the state government has congratulated indigenes of the state who bagged national honours in the recently released list of national honours awardees.Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Hon. Funminiyi Afuye said the award was in recognition of the services of the awardees to national development, adding that the state government was proud of them and their achievements in their various endeavours. The awardees include the first civilian governor of the state, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo; Professor Emeritus Ade Ajayi and Chairman of the State Council of Obas, the Owaooye of Okemesi-Ekiti, Oba Gbadebo Adedeji who bagged the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON).The rest are the former military administrator of Rivers State, AVM Earnest Adeleye (rtd) who was awarded Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR), and the immediate past chairman of the State Council of Obas, the Arinjale of Ise-Ekiti, Oba Adetunji Ajayi.
