(Galatians 5: 22-23)Bible Passage: Ephesians 5:1-9Introduction: One the most important, if not the most important thing about a person is his or her character. Good looks are transient and the glory of the youth will pass away but character endures and secures.Christian character, however, is more than a good moral code. It includes the fruit of the spirit outlined in our memory verse and eloquently displayed in the life of our Lord Jesus Christ.All these traits are contained in one single fruit given by the Holy Spirit to consecrated and yielded children of God baptised in the Holy Spirit.Lesson OutlinesWhat Is The Significance Of The Word 'Fruit''Why Should We Exhibit Traits Of The Fruit'The significance of the word 'fruit': All the traits are contained in one single fruit and the traits are not fruits of the Spirit because there is only one Holy Spirit; signifying the unity of purpose and direction of Christians in the spirit as opposed to 'works' of the flesh detailed in Galatians 5:19 which are many, diversionary and varied.Why we should exhibit these traits in every area of our lives:The exhibition of the traits of the fruit of the Holy Spirit is evidence of death of the flesh and it's works. (John 12:24) It's also evidence of the new life in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 2:20) It's the only reason we remain on this side of eternity after salvation (John15:3) Also, fruitlessness and God's favour cannot co-exist. (Luke 13:9) The husbandman waits for the fruit of the earth. (James 5:7) The Lord Jesus is also expecting the true fruit in the lives of believers. The Fruit identifies. (Matthew 12:33) The spies brought the fruit of Canaan as proof that the place produced good fruit. (Numbers 13:26) Christians cannot be a blessing without reproducing goodness. (Genesis 1:11; Colossians 1:10) Fruitfulness glorifies God. (Matthew 5:16)ConclusionChristian character is the consistent and clear exhibition of all the traits of the fruit of the Spirit. God expects reproduction from all Christians and for them to make a positive impact on their immediate environment.
