Published by The Nation on Sat, 21 Nov 2020

Bill passes first reading at State Assemblyas late govsson donates ambulances to mobile clinicAdekunle Jimoh, IlorinKWARA State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, has sent a bill to the state House of Assembly for the repeal of the law granting payment of monthly pension to former governors and their deputies in the state.House Speaker, Yakubu Danladi, announced the presentation of the bill during plenary while reading the governors message to the House. The presentation of the executive bill by the governor was reportedly in response to the wish of the citizenry.Danladi, while presenting the governors request, said the bill was tailored toward realising the cardinal objective of the state government on prudent management of resources. All members at the plenary unanimously agreed that the bill had passed first reading after the presentation of the governors request for consideration.Danladi later referred the bill to the House Committee on Rules and Business to assign the bill for deliberation at the next legislative sitting of the House. In another development, the son of the late state governor, Mohammed Lawal, Hakeem, has donated two Mercedes Benz ambulances for the states mobile health clinic project. The younger Lawal, who was a one-time governorship aspirant in the state, urged the well-heeled citizenry to assist the state government in its healthcare delivery system. He said this in Ilorin, the state capital, at the unveiling of the ambulances and 14th memorial prayers for his late father.I know first-hand that access to medical care in our state is limited, especially in the rural areas and suburbs, even those with access find it challenging to utilize due to limited financial resources and other limitations. All efforts must be concentrated on providing good healthcare deliverables to our people, this the government surely cant do alone, it is in this spirit that I procured two Mercedes Benz ambulances for onward donation to Awliya Foundation, a foundation founded in memory of my fatherMohammed Alabi Lawal. I hereby donate these ambulances for the purpose of a mobile health clinic, he said.
