Keshi to recall Yakubu, Kaita

Published by Punch on Mon, 07 Nov 2011

Super Eagles new coach, Stephen Keshi, has said that he would give every quality Nigerian player the chance to prove themselves in the team. Keshi who arrived in the country on Thursday to take up the new position is extending the opportunity to both home and foreign based players. The former Eagles captain who spoke in Abuja said that he would not discriminate against any player as his desire is to build a strong team that Nigerians had always known. He said, "Siasia has done well especially adding young players to the squad. Any player with quality would get his chance with the Eagles. I would invite players based only on their club form and the positions they play."I dont think it is wrong giving the likes of Yakubu Aiyegbeni and (Sani) Kaita a fresh opportunity with the team if they are doing very well in their respective clubs. I do not want to sacrifice their international career for some unfortunate incidents of the past."I dont think we should dump Kaita because he was red-carded at the last World Cup. What happened in his case is regular with football. The young man has been kept away for over one year but he has been playing regular football for his club."I also think that the team helped Kaita after that incident. I think his mates should have rallied around him to lift his spirit back and Nigerians should have spared him the condemnation that followed the loss. We have seen teams playing one man short go ahead to get important victories. Kaita would get his chance if he remains in top form with his club."The new manager also extend kind words to Yakubu whose goal miss against South Korea became an instant replay hit across the world."I think Yakubu should also be considered if he still wants to play for Nigeria. Nigerians have not given him a chance to redeem himself. If he is playing well for his club and we sincerely feel he could help the Eagles then he could get a chance."As for me I want Yakubu, Kaita or any other player that has served Nigeria to leave or retire in high spirit. I dont like situation that make players to grumble after serving the country well."
