Lawmakers, others want unity

Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has called on Nigerians to shun corruption and greed.In a message to Nigerians to mark the Eid El Kabir celebration on Sunday, Ekweremadu said instead, Nigerians should embrace the spirit of sacrifice and unity.He said obedience and a high sense of sacrifice were indispensable virtues for the rapid development of the nation.He said, "Our nation is at a juncture where every Nigerian must show high sense of patriotism to ensure the nation reclaims her pride of place among the comity of nations."Also, the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, appealed to Muslims and people of other faiths to always obey the command of Allah.Ikuforiji spoke to reporters after prayers at G. Cappa Praying Ground, Onigbongbo LCDA, Ikeja, Lagos. He said, "Submission to the will of Allah is the essence of creation. It is scary to slaughter ones son as a sacrifice, yet Prophet Ibrahim submitted. Seeing his faith, Allah provided him a ram to slaughter instead of his. That tells us that if we obey God,He will be compassionate to us and He will guide us in Lagos State and Nigeria."The lawmaker, representing Kosofe Federal Constituency of Lagos State, Mr. Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, also said Nigerias rebirth was highly dependent on the virtues of sacrifice and tolerance.Bush-Alebiosu, in a Sallah message, said Nigerians should imbibe the lessons of the festival, which underscored unparallel faith.He said, "Sacrifice, was the hallmark of Eid-el-Kabir and should be taken-in by all Nigerians, so as to re-awake the spirit of national rebirth in the desire of Nigerias quest to be among the 20 most developed nations by 2020."The Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao; the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; and Senator Ayoade Adeseun also called on Nigerians to use the festive season of Id-el-Kabir to pray for peace and stability.Arisekola implored Nigerians to respect constituted authorities and allow the spirit behind the season to dominate their lives.Adeseun, who is the representative of the Oyo Central Senatorial District, called on Nigerians to pray for the progress and unity of the nation.Oba Adeyemi called for the creation of avenue for peaceful coexistence among their neighbours in order to ensure continued progress for the nation.The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, urged Nigerians to continue to exhibit love and understanding.
