Nigerians may pay less for cancer screening

THE Federal Government and urologists have resolved to ensure that Nigerians pay less for the diagnosis and treatment to reduce the high incidence of cancer mortality in the country.At the 17th yearly general meeting of the Nigerian Association of Urological Surgeons (NAUS) in Abuja, Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, who was represented by the ministry's Director of Special Projects, Dr. Folake Ademola-Majekodumi, said affordable charges for cancer screening could aid early detection of the disease.President, NAUS, Prof. Alexandra Nwofor, said theme 'Urolithiasis and prostate cancer' was chosen because prostate cancer accounts for a great percentage of cancer-related deaths in the world.He called for 'at least basic screening using digital rectal examination and the initiation of public enlightenment on prostate cancer'.
