Kinsmen honour Arinze, Achebe, others

THIRTY-EIGHT eminent indigenes of Idemili-North Local Council of Anambra State including the literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe, were yesterday honoured for distinguishing themselves in their chosen careers and for their outstanding service to humanity.At the colourful ceremony, which also marked the fifth anniversary of Nzuko-Imeobi Idemili at Ogidi, saw the recipients, who were either present or represented, taking their turn to receive their awards. They included Francis Cardinal Arinze, Mr. Osita Chidoka, Corp Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the ace actor, Bob-Manuel Udokwu.Others included a former governorship candidate, Col. Adolphus Mezue (rtd), Prof. Peter Nwangwu, erstwhile presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the April 2011 elections and Prof.Ginigeme Mbanefo, a former Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).Nzuko-Imeobi, according to the anniversary organising committee, Dr. Laz Okafor, is a quasi-pressure group that embraces all sons and daughters of the council to facilitate the development of the area.Those who received post-humous awards were the late Archbishop Albert Obiefuna of Archdiocese of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, the late monarch of Obosi, Igwe Isaac Iweka and the late former chairman of the council, Henry Ileka.
