CBN VOWS TO INVEST IN SOCCER DEVELOPMENT

THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has restated its determination to make positive contributions towards the promotion and development of football in the country.The CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who noted that such investment was part of the apex bank's corporate social responsibility, spoke at the weekend during the final of the 25th edition of the All Financial Institutions Football Competition held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.The final match, played between First Bank and Union Bank soccer teams, ended 4-2 in favour of the former after a penalty shoot-out.Sanusi, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Tunde Lemo, said the competition was organised by the CBN in collaboration with the NigeriaFootball Federation (NFF).The CBN boss appealed to all financial institutions, especially those that have not been participating in the competition to encourage their teams to register for the next edition.He disclosed that the total prize money for the winners next year has been upwardly reviewed to N3,750,000 from the current Nl,750,000.
