Published by Tribune on Tue, 22 Mar 2011

THE First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, on Monday, continued her mobilisation activities for the Goodluck/Sambo ticket, with a visit to the Eze Ndigbo of Lagos and president of the Association of Eze Ndigbo in diaspora, Eze Hyacith Ohazuruike, in his palace at Oko Oba, Agege, Lagos.Mrs Jonathan, who was ushered into the palace with songs by Igbo women in Lagos State, told the Eze Ndigbo that she was in his palace to fraternise with her kin in Lagos and to canvass their support for the PDP in the forthcoming general election. She described the Igbo as very enterprising and hard working people, who settled in Lagos as they did elsewhere in the world for trade and businesses. The First Lady said the Igbo needed crops of leader who were sympathetic to their cause and promote their business, saying that President Jonathan represented hopes and aspirations of the Igbo race.Speaking further, she noted that the Igbo needed someone who would take them as his own and urged them to vote massively for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming elections.Do not let them deceive you. They had come to you in the past, took what they wanted and left without doing anything for you. Vote someone who will take care of you and that is President Jonathan, she said. She said the non-indigenes in Lagos State, with their over 4 million votes, would determine the pace of voting in Lagos state. The Eze Ndigbo of Lagos, supported by other ezes from Oyo, Ogun and Ondo, among others, welcomed the First Lady, who he described as the daughter of Igbo.
