Nude pictures: Victims give conflicting accounts

Published by Punch on Tue, 08 Nov 2011

Miss Morenike Dare and Miss Dayo Richards, two ladies whose nude pictures were posted on the Internet, have given conflicting accounts on the scandal. The pictures were posted on the internet on Friday after the girls were allegedly beaten and stripped for allegedly stealing at Plaza Motel, Akure. While Richards in a petition to the state police command accused a popular youth leader in the town, Mr. Ade Fayehun, a.k.a Ade Basket, of perpetrating the act, Dare claimed that she and Richards fought and stripped each other. In the petition, Richards said Fayehun slept with her and four other girls including Morenike, at the motel on Thursday night only to accuse them the next day of stealing his money.Richards said, At about quarter after one, we left for the room where five of us slept, including Fayehun. The following morning at about 9:00am, Fayehun raised the alarm that he could not find his N9, 000 and that everybody in the room must be searched. Our gender notwithstanding, he forcefully searched us all and nothing was found on me. Not satisfied, he called his boys on the phone and when they arrived the scene, they beat us and inflicted injury on me.Fayehun later tore our clothes and stripped us. After that, he and his boys forced us out of the motel premises and made us to walk naked on the street that Friday morning.Fayehun went ahead to post the nude pictures he took on the premises of the motel on the internet. Friends and family members who saw the pictures on the net have called me on several occasions. This assault, inhuman and degrading treatment has done irreparable damage to us and my person in particular. But Dare, who was seen, hanging out with Fayehun at a popular joint in Akure on Friday night told journalists that the man did not beat any of them. She said, Richards, who is supposed to be an elder sister to me, disappointed me. She was the one who invited me to meet Ade Basket and requested that I should follow them to Blissword Hotel in Ijapo. I reluctantly agreed.Ade Basket later said he wanted to relocate to the motel. Richards accepted to follow him and asked that I should join them. By this time, Richards was drunk. We later begged Ade, to provide accommodation for us for the night since we were already stranded. The next morning, I discovered that my N1,500 was missing in my bag. I asked Richards about it since only the two of us slept in the room.A fight ensued between us and this attracted Ade who was in the other room. He settled the quarrel and offered to pay back my lost money only to discover that his own money, N9,000, was missing too.To my surprise, Richards suddenly removed the money from her private part, and cleverly put it inside my bag, raising the alarm that I was the one that stole the money. At this juncture, I pounced on Richards and removed the wrapper she tied around her.She in turn stripped me when both of us engaged in a fight. It was our fight that attracted people in and around the hotel and our pictures were taken by the onlookers without our knowledge. She alleged that Richards is a well known call girl, who is very frequent in notorious places and night clubs in Lagos, Abuja and other cities trading her illicit business and duping unsuspecting victims.Dare added that, I do not have any bad feelings towards Ade Basket because he neither beat nor treated us badly. Richards is trying to be mischievous. She is only blackmailing Ade who she had told me has been a very good person to her. I challenge Richards to come out and tell the whole world the true story instead of blackmailing Ade Basket and myself. The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Olayinka Alabi, had condemned the alleged inhuman treatment purportedly meted out on the two women. She had also warned that the state government would not tolerate any form of harassment and molestation of any resident of the state.Alabi in a statement in Akure on Saturday had however said the state government had since directed security agents to investigate the matter with a view to bringing the culprits to book. She warned that any attempt by anyone or group of people to denigrate womanhood in the state would not be tolerated. The commissioner expressed the sympathy of the state government to the ladies and pledged that they would be rehabilitated and re-integrated into the society through counselling. She also explained that her ministry was already discussing with relevant security agencies and human rights organisations to ensure that the culprits were brought to book, adding that the matter was being investigated. Also in a statement on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said Governor Olusegun Mimiko had assured the people of the state that anyone or group of persons who perpetrated the crime would be brought to book.He said, As soon as the governor got hint of the alleged assault, he ordered that a thorough investigation be conducted, instructing that whoever that is found culpable be made to face the wrath of the law.The government therefore warned all those who are allegedly committing criminal activities under the pretext of being party loyalists to eschew acts capable of disturbing the peace of the state and embrace peace in their own interest.
