April polls: Jonathan reassures international community of credible elections

President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, reassured the international community of the commitment of his administration to conduct free, fair and credible elections next month.This is as the president stated that the new headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was first approved by the General Ibrahim Babangida regime in 1987 but whose completion was later stalled, would serve as a catalyst for speedy resolution of the countrys foreign-related issues.Jonathan, who was represented by Vice-President Namadi Sambo at the inauguration of the new Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters, stated that the present government was determined to pursue its one man, one vote tenent.He reiterated the resolve of his administration to tackle the issue of electricity generation in the country and pledged that the Federal Government would give a boost to the countrys foreign policy thrust.Describing the foreign policy as a vital component of the countrys existence, President Jonathan expressed satisfaction that the new building had added, striking dimension to Abuja skyline.Speaking earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia, described the new headquarters of the ministry as a magnificient edifice that befits its role, bold assertive statement and imposing headquarters that symbolises Nigerias foreign policy.He lamented that the world was confronted by serious challenges and noted that the inauguration was coming at a time when terrorism, drug and human trafficking, climate change, proliferation of arm and earthquake.Ajumogobia noted that the project witnessed intermitent delays but paid glowing tribute to his predecessors as well as other people who contributed individually and collectively towards the realisation of the project.
