The attempt to fill the vacant stool of Olikan of Etikan in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, is causing ripples among the people of the community as the council of kingmakers in the town has rejected Adedoyin Oyetakin as the Olikan-elect.A statement by the Head of the Kingmakers, High Chief Omosehin Oroyo and the Olorogun Ajagbiyara of Etikan, Chief Ade Ibinuolapo, said the meeting that selected Oyetakin was illegal.According to the statement, the processes that led to the emergence of Oyetakin was strange to the customs and tradition of Etikan. The people argued that the purported meeting of October 10, 2011 where Oyetakin was selected was not a meeting of Etikan kingdom kingmakers, alleging that the kingmakers were impersonated.Apart from this, they claimed that two out of the three existing kingmakers had dissociated themselves from the meeting and had already filed an action in the court to nullify whatever decision was taken at the meeting. The statement added, 'we also want to use this medium to say that the Head of Mafemiwa Ruling Hopuse never presented the name of Oyetakin Adedoyin to the kingmakers, the only name presented to the kingmakers to fill the vacant stool of Olikan of Etikan is that of Barr. Busayo Adeola Bernard Oroyo.'Two out of the three kingmakers under the headship of High Chief Omosehin Oroyo, the Ogholijogun of Etikan had since approved the name and sent it to the Secretary, Ilaje Local Government, but the Director of Ilaje Local Government Administration neglected and refused to act on the name on the instruction of the Ilaje Local Government Caretaker chairman'.Also, the Council of Elders and Chiefs in the kingdom have forwarded a petition to the state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, on the issue, saying that there was impersonation of the kingmakers in the process that led to the emergence of Oyetakin. The petition was signed by the Head of Mafemiwa, High Chief Festus Oroyo, the Head of Kogun Ruling house, Apostle Folagbade Mebawondu, the Head of Ikumapayi, High Chief Olu Ayemo and the Head of Holo, Chief Owonifari Omodun. The people noted that two kingmakers, High Chief Olorogun Ajagbiyara and High Chief Liha were impersonated by people that were not kingmakers and participated in the selection of candidate for the vacant stool. They, therefore, pleaded with the governor to prevail on the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters not to honour the process that led to the emergence of Oyetakin in order to prevent crisis in the Etikan kingdom.
