Nigeria's leading cement manufacturing company, Larfarge Cement WAPCO, as part of its corporate social responsibilities to its host communities, has inaugurated multi-million naira projects to strengthen the cordial relations existing between the company and the host communities.The Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Samy Abdelkader, in his address at the ceremony, emphasized that the company had four core values which include: Infrastructure, health and safety, education and youth empowerment.The projects scattered round the host communities were the Ewekoro Community Water Project, a 1,800metres Egbado- Ajegunle Community drainage system spread across eight villages to put an end to the perennial flood problems in the areas, a four-kilometer concrete road at Olapeleke , town halls and borehole projects at Oke-Oko Bankole Egbado and Elebute.The Baale of Ewekoro, Chief Akande Satari, commended the company for providing the borehole to the community. He said that the project would put an end to the long suffering of his people in getting water for domestic use.The community leader promised that the community would maintain and service the borehole to the delight of the company. He described Larfarge Cement WAPCO as a responsible and responsive company.The Oluomo of Ewekoro, Prince Rasheed Awesu, thanked the company management, saying 'we are happy and grateful to Larfarge for this gesture. We appreciate them and pray that the company continue to wax stronger'Awesu who is also the youth leader of the community, appealed to the company to assist the state government in boosting security network in the area. He promised the readiness of the community people to partner with the company.It was the same story in all the communities that benefited from the company gesture as they could not hide their feelings on the development brought to them.The Youth Leader of Olapeleke, Mr. Ayo Sobola, described the project as a laudable one that would boost the economic status of the community and its four adjoining villages.He explained that the area used to be waterlogged during rainy season thereby making it impassable for the user.The company also gave out 106 scholarships to undergraduate in the 11 host communities, empowered the aged with food items and provisions, the youths with working tools that would be a source of income generation.Abdelkader, during the presentation ceremony described the host communities as a key stakeholder in its entire businesses world.He said, ''We place local stakeholder relations at the core of our business, basing our approach on dialogue, transparency, responsibility and the contribution to the economic and social development of local territories''.
