Traditional ruler commends church

Published by Punch on Wed, 09 Nov 2011

The Onidimu of Idimu, Oba Azeez Olayemi, has attributed the decrease in crime in the community to the presence of a church in the area. The traditional ruler said this during a visit by leaders of Cherubim and Seraphim, Ayo Ni O, Idimu, to his palace on Saturday as part of activities to mark the churchs 71st international conference in Lagos. "The impact of the church can be felt in the community. It contributed to the installation of peace and reduction of crime," Olayemi said.He observed that the church had through its peaceful preaching and moral advice developed the youth and made them better. "Every religious organisation should also follow the path of peace and ensure that communities are crime free," the monarch said. The Supreme Head and Chairman of the church, Rev. Samuel Adeboye, urged Muslims and Christians to eschew violence and promote development. He said, "Nigerians must show love to one another regardless of their religion or tribe," adding that they should be dedicated to the welfare of their counterparts in other religions. According to him, the nation will only experience growth and development when there is peace and harmony. Adeboye urged security agencies to beef up security in all the nations borders, airports and seaports. "Security agencies must in all their efforts maintain peace and order in the country. More needs to be done in the area of deployment of security officers to areas that are prone to violence," he said. .
