EFCC should monitor election tribunals

A lawyer in Cross River State, Mr. Utum Eteng, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to monitor the activities of members of the Election Petitions Tribunal in the country. Eteng, in an interview in Calabar on Tuesday, alleged that some members of the tribunals had been compromised. He said, "There is so much corruption in the judiciary as it relates to election petitions. Allegation by corruption of judges is pervasive and this is eroding the confidence of the people. "Currently, I think the Chief Justice of Nigeria must sit down and overhaul the judiciary. They should not select judges anyhow and send to the tribunals. Politicians have learnt to perfect their games."The quality of judgment is poor. In Cross River State, the Court of Appeal turned down and reversed the judgment of the tribunal. Does it not touch your conscience' Why should that be' "The panel of three judges of the tribunal will give a judgment, not one, not two and not three and you take them to the higher court of appeal and every of them is reversed. You dont need a soothsayer to tell you that something must have happened somewhere."
