Policeman, 1 other killed as robbers attack Edo PDP senatorial aspirant

An ambush by robbers on the convoy of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial aspirant in Edo State, on Wednesday, left a police orderly and nephew to the politician dead.Family sources said the duo were coming from the bank, where they had gone to cash an unspecified amount of money and were returning to the politician's residence at Aikhonvbare in Benin, before they were attacked at a location close to the Grace Group campaign office in the area.The Public Relations Officer, Edo State Police Command, DSP Noble Owoh, confirmed that the incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, adding that the two killed were in the convoy of Honourable West-Idahosa.He gave the name of the policeman that was killed as Usifo David and was attached to the Police Protection Unit, Benin.He noted that there was an exchange of fire between the robbers and policemen in the politician's convoy but that the robbers particularly targeted a black Ford car in the convoy, killing the policeman and the politician's nephew.He, however, said that Honourable West-Idahosa escaped unhurt and that police have taken possession of the attacked vehicle while investigations have commenced.Family sources added that the killed nephew was the only child of Honourable West Idahosa's sister.
