Inadequate fund slows pace of road repairs in Kaduna ' GM

MALAM Tanimu Abubakar, the General Manager, Kaduna State Public Works Agency, has attributed the slow pace of road rehabilitation in the local government areas to lack of funds.He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that the state government releases only N1 million monthly for the maintenance of about 153 roads in Kaduna metropolis alone.Abubakar said the agency was also receiving N1 million monthly to maintain streets and traffic lights located on 17 routes in the metropolis.He said that another major challenge facing the agency was lack of equipment.Abubakar, however, promised that in spite of the enormous challenges, the agency would endeavour to speed up its routine road maintenance across the state.He warned residents in the metropolis against indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roadsides to avert blockage, erosion and accidents.'Hawking, dumping of refuse and removal of road signs had in the past resulted in avoidable accidents in the state.''He also warned that the agency would henceforth arrest and prosecute any resident involved in the removal of traffic and caution signs on the roads.
