Ogun signs MoU with BoI

OGUN State Government has moved a step closer to attaining its goal of zero youth unemployment with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bank of Industry (BoI).Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who signed the document, also presented a cheque of N500 million to BoI as the state's counterpart fund for the N1 billion facility for small-scale businesses in the state.The governor further disclosed that the state government did not borrow to pay workers' salaries for the month of September despite the row with the Federal Government over monthly allocation from the Federation Account. 'This is a testimony to the financial prudence of our administration,' he said.The governor described the event as a major step forward in its youth employment programme, stressing that the scheme would take 10,000 people off the labour market.He expressed the hope that the management of BoI, led by its Managing Director, Ms. Evelyn Oputu, would soon return to the state to sign another MoU which would make N2 billion available for small scale businesses in the state.The target of the government, according to Governor Amosun, was to take one million youths off the labour market. He expressed the hope that the BoI would continue to be an ally towards achieving this goal.The governorassured the BoI team that his administration would manage the funds judiciously.Oputu had earlier praised the commitment of the stategovernment to the signing of the MoU.She told the gathering that included the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Salisu Shuaibu, Commissioners for Commerce, Justice and Agriculture, Bimbo Ashiru, Wemimo Ogunde and Ayo Olubori respectively that she was greatly impressed by the determination and zeal of the government towards creating employment for its teeming youths.Oputu added that with the signing of the MoU, the state government had commenced the journey to achieving massive employment in Ogun State.
