NCAA to fire over 300 workers over irregular employment

Published by Tribune on Fri, 05 Dec 2014

Revelations emerged on Thursday that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has concluded plans to sack some members of staff recently employed over what is termed irregular employment by the past management.Nigerian Tribune gathered that at least 350 staff members employed by the former acting Director-General, NCAA, Mr Benedict Adeyileka, might be affected by the exercise which might commence anytime from now.According to a source in the industry, the former rector general and the Human Resources director of the agency had been suspended by the current helmsman, Dr Mukhtar Usman and this received the approval of the Minister of Aviation, Mr Osita Chidoka. Most of those to be affected by the sack were those employed between August and late October, 2014.The management allegedly argued that the engagement of the employees did not follow due process and received approval from higher authorities. The salaries of the affected workers had since been put on hold by the management. The affected employees were said to have been hurriedly brought into the system towards the tail end of Adeyileka as the acting Director-General of the agency. No fewer than 700 employees had been engaged in NCAA in the past two years with most of them coming through the Presidency, National Assembly and ministers. The former minister of aviation, Princess Stella Oduah had employed no fewer than 2,500 people in all the agencies different positions within her two years of being in the saddle.
