Attention of President Jonathan and Gov. Nyako

Published by Nigerian Compass on Wed, 09 Nov 2011

I am more concerned about Adamawa North. We have been forgotten. From 1961, we have been dribbled and up till this moment, all the promises made by the Sardauna Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello have not been kept. From Gwoza to Gella, nothing good has been done to show that the plebiscite promises have been kept. This northern part of Adamawa State was that part of United Nations administered territory from the conflicts of First World War and Second World War. By 1960, this UN administered territory had not become part of Nigeria yet, but with the influence of the late Sardauna of Sokoto, this region became part of Nigeria through a plebiscite. With the agreement sealed, the Sardauna Province, as it was later on called, was promised other facilities they lacked and deserving posts and offices. The first Premier of Northern Nigeria said the Province was to be treated with equal status like Kano, Katsina, Sokoto and Borno. They were to be given all the social and economic privileges inherent in the other provinces. The road from Mubi through Uba, through Bazza, through Michika passing to Gulak town, to Madagali and ending in Gwoza was a trunk 'A'thoroughfare. But since the plebiscite, not much has been done for the former Sardauna Province. No other facility has been added to what is in existence. The only seemingly good thing that was established is the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, which at present, is dilapidated. From 1963, only Professor Iya Abubakar and Professor Musa Yakubu from Maiha were appointed Ministers. Patriotism is in the heart of service and even if one is appointed at a national level, the love for one's community always remains. The people of Adamawa North, comprising five Local Governments, Maiha,Mubi South, Mubi North, Michika and Madagali, have suffered deprivation, neglect, humiliation and rejection. We would like to see fair representation in governance. Let there be equity and justice. Please, appoint our kith and kin into positions so that our towns and villages can benefit from their presence at the federal level. I hope Mr. President will listen and act upon this feeling and true position of our people. Thank you.Aminu Baba Gaji, 7 Biu Road-Opposite Abubakar Cinema,Gombe,Gombe State.e-mail: aminu.babagaji@yahoo.com
