Uduaghan withdraws from senatorial race

A strategic re-allignment of forces to ensure the success of Monday's governorship primaries of Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has seen the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, withdrawing from the senatorial race.Under the new deal brokered by President Goodluck Jonathan, it was gathered that incumbent Senator James Manager is to support the aspiration of Mr. Anthony Obuh for the governorship ticket of the PDP at its congress on Monday.Uduaghan told newsmen on Friday in Asaba, shortly after returning from Abuja on consultation with President Jonathan that he had withdrawn from the race.The Governor said he offered to step down in the senatorial primary election slated for Sunday to ensure that the political tension in Niger-Delta did not escalate.According to him haven analysed the political and security situation in the region, he had no other option than to make sacrifices in the interest of peace and security.He pointed out that there was ethnic tension in the region, and it had been noticed at the national level of which President Jonathan expressed concern hence the need to ensure peace and security in the state.He further emphasised that 'nobody forced me to step dawn, if they did I would not have been here with you'He said 'in doing that, I am aware that a lot of my followers will be affected, but I have do this for the sake of the state', condemning a situation where individuals would want to get position at the expense of human life.'Now that I am out of the race, it gives me better leverage to manage my transition and get involved in national issues, the President wants some of us to work with him in 2015,' Uduaghan stressed.
