Forum seeks development of textile industry

Fashion and textile shakeholders, under the aegis of the Fashion and Textile Industry Stakeholders Forum, has called for the development of the sector to boost employment opportunities and generate foreign exchange earnings through exports.A statement by the Coordinator of FASTIN, Mrs. Joy Chinwokwu, on Wednesday in Abuja, said the forum had decided to organise a meeting soon towards revamping the countrys textile industry.The forum will promote high quality made-in-Nigeria fashion and textile products by creating wholesale and retail outlets, both within and outside the country.The statement said the forum would provide the necessary complimentary communication support that would boost employment generation, tourism and sustainable foreign exchange earning mechanisms for the industry.It said that stakeholders at the forum would be more focused and productive in the manufacturing of homemade textiles and fashion products that could compete favourably in the international market.The statement added that some ministries and government agencies, including the Ministries of Agriculture, Trade and Investment, the Bank of Industry, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Nigerian Export-Import Bank and the National Orientation Agency would be participating at the forum.According to her, the participating states include Ogun, Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Gombe, FCT, Benue and Delta.The theme of the conference is, Clothing Renaissance: Empowering Nigerian Investors For The Global Market.
