Labour should exercise restraint on fuel subsidy

Former governorship candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria in the 2007 election in Plateau State, Mr. Chris Giwa, has advised the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress not to view every government policy as anti-people.Giwa said Labour should assess every policy on its merit and what benefit it would bring to the country.Making an allusion to labours opposition to the proposed removal of subsidy on petroleum products, he said it was wrong for labour to think that government did not care for the people.In a statement in Jos on Wednesday, Giwa said President Goodluck Jonathan had shown enough commitment to the Nigerian project.He asked Nigerians to be patient with the President since he had never deceived them and would not do so on issues affecting the countrys well-being.He said labour should explore the palliative measures put in place by government to ensure they reach the populace, adding that Nigerians not be averse to making little adjustments when called upon to do so.The ACN candidate urged Nigerians to continue to pray and support the President, saying God had placed in his hands the task of moving the nation forward.He said, I find it pertinent as a major stakeholder in the Nigerian project to enlighten the Nigerian masses about the intention of the government and what it implies to the average Nigerian.
