N2.5m fraud: Police arraign 30-year-old in Lagos

A 30-year-old man,Kayode Sanusi,was, on Wednesday, arraigned by the police before a Lagos magistrate's court sitting in Ikeja, on a six-count charge bordering on stealing, felony and obtaining by false pretence.According to the police prosecutor, Barth Nwaokenye, the offences were contrary to sections 516, 419 and 390 of the Criminal Code Cap, Vol. ii, Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2003.He was also alleged to have, on January 20, 2011, obtained the sum of N2,585,000 at 13, Lateef Taiwo Street, Ikotun, Lagos, from one Surajudeen Yusuf, with the pretence that he would remit it into his Zenith Bank account, while knowing that 'same is false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 17, Vol. ii, Laws of Lagos State Nigeria, 2003'According to Nwaokenye, on the same date, Sanusi also stole three plain cheque leaves and made a withdrawal of N1,485,000 which is the property of Sarajudeen Yusuf and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 390 of the criminal code, Laws of Lagos 2003.Sanusi pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.The sureties, according to the magistrate, Olufemi Isaac, must show evidence of tax payment, be a resident of Lagos and their addresses must be verified by the court registrar.The judge adjourned the matter till December 14, 2011 for trial.
