First Bank coach relishes CBN Cup win

FIRST Bank Football Club's trainer, Coach Gabriel, says winning the 2011 CBN Cup has justified the fate the management of the team has in his boys.The bank has won the tourney six times in the past, and with Coach Gabriel getting assistance from former football great, Wasiu Ipaye, the team was simply a handful for its opponents.Speaking on the latest triumph, Coach Gabriel said, 'We can only assure them that we'll do more in the coming tourneys, because we have received more than enough encouragement.'First Bank won the All Financial Institutions Soccer Tourney, otherwise known as the CBN Cup, in Abeokuta, Ogun State over the weekend.About 20 banks participated in the tourney held at the MKO Abiola Stadium and at the end of the day, First Bank won all its five games to take the trophy.The tourney, which was conceived in mid-October, saw some scintillating displays by footballers from all the banks that took part, and at the end of the day the Coach Gabriel tutored side dwarfed all others to win the tourney.Responding to the feat, the management of the bank said its sponsorship of the Elephant Boys formed part of its innovative approach to driving youth development and empowerment through sports.
