Precious Okuchukwu is a force to reckon with in the gospel music genre. The native of Obollo, Udenu Local Council of Enugu State, also presents Ndi amama, an Igbo celebrity magazine show on Hitv and Uwa ndi ejije in Kpapkando on Infinity Cable TV. Okuchukwu, who is married with children, tells GERALDINE AKUTU what fashion and style mean to her.Your definition of fashionIt is a normal way of dressing.What is your style of dressing'Traditional and antiquated. By that, I'm always unique, as everyone has gone western. I like this because of my television programme and I am trying to build a brand with this mode of dressing. My hair-do is always like what it was in the days of our mother. I dress to look like an Igbo lady with beads and make-ups. I also do western style. I wear Jean, T-shirts, suits and gowns, but my style of dressing is simply traditional.Your favourite piece of clothingThe traditional ' George, Abada, Ntorica and Nigerian print materials.Favourite designers Needle Craft Couture and Tee Jays clothing. For my perfumes, it is Coco Channel, while bags are YSL, Roberto Cavali and Louis Vuitton.What is your favourite colour and why'Green and Lemon because these are the colours of life.What do you think about the fashion industry in Nigeria'It has made tremendous progress in the last few years, as people now prefer to wear traditional these days compared with what it was in the past. We are no longer crazy about the western mode of dressing and their designers.What would you not be caught wearing'Any cloth that will expose my body because it is the temple of the Lord.Your role models'Joke Silva, Genevive Nnaji (Nollywood) and Sister Chinyere Udoma (Gospel artiste).Describe yourself in few wordsA true Christian, loving and someone with integrity.Why did you go into music'I went into music because that was what I grow up to see myself loving to do with a passion. At a very tender age, I found myself singing for my peers. As I grow up, the enthusiasm continued and because of my love for the work of God, I joined the Catholic Charismatic movement where I sang for the group until I came to Lagos and began to sing professionally.What is your programne about'My television programme is an Igbo celebrity magazine show. I invite celebrities of all walks of life, from the movie, music, sports, politics, government and others to come and speak Igbo language and to make my viewers see their favourite artistes respond to those questions about their life and persons in Igbo language.If given the opportunity to change something in Nigeria, what would it be'The system of government that leaves so much power at the centre. As a result of this, the Nigerian politics has been a 'do or die' thing. Government should be decentralised and the centre made less attractive.
