Oh, Girly, Sexy Tiwa

Published by Guardian on Thu, 10 Nov 2011

WITH an amazing voice and talent, Tiwa Savage is gradually etching herself in the minds of Afro-pop music lovers. The University of Kent Business Administration graduate who began her music career as a backup singer for international artistes such as Mary J. Blige, George Michael, Kelly Clarkson, Whitney Houston and others has already been signed on by Sony, a US-based record label.Love by many for her beautiful songs, Tiwa wows onlookers with her funky style each time she graces the red carpet. She is a damsel that knows how to dress to suit her shape. Tiwa's sexy girly style is edgy and she confidently flaunts it; making her cynosure of eyes whenever she appears. Getting the glam look Think about your personalityYour style needs to match your personality. Your clothes are like a description of you! 'My style is very girly, I love skirts and dresses, but when I want to be comfortable, I wear leggings and heels. I believe my style is an extension of my personality. When I am on the red carpet, I like being glamorous, very cute and girly, yet classy,' she says. Find your signature lookThe key to looking fabulous begins with identifying your style personality. According to the singer, 'I am still finding what works for me in terms of style. Right now, I love girly looks. I also combine African fabrics and designs to create a very glamorous look.' Make sure your clothes fitWithout doubts, the key to a flattering wardrobe is fitness and proportion. Good fits are clothes that show curves without clinging to them. Everything can fit properly, but if you don't get the proportions right, you will still be off the mark. Flattering your figure is a balancing act ' you must consider the length of your legs in relation to your torso, and the width of your shoulders in relation to your hips. In addition to that, use clothes to highlight your best features. Be a trendsetterSince fashion reflects the mindset of a society, cultural, economic and social factors, they are excellent cues to what will be in demand at your local department stores. Just like the songwriter, do you want people to talk about what you wear or how good you look' If yes, it's simple. Steal from Tiwa's tips, throw together a few good outfits that make people envy or adore your looks; then they will always look forward to seeing whatever you put together each time you step out. Less accessories speaks volumeOne of the things that have always marked Tiwa out is that she does not overdo her accessories. One to three necklaces, a bracelet and earrings are good. Try to make them match the style of the outfit. Balance it up When it comes to balancing one's outfit, Tiwa has a distinction. To always look as elegant as the singer, always balance your clothing. If you're wearing a bright and colourful top, wear a neutral bottom; same goes for makeup. Be confidentConfidence will boost your determination; and to be a fashion icon, you need determination. Choose your coloursWe all love and wear colours, but finding the right hue matters a lot. The shades that suit you depend on your skin tone, hair and eyes colours. 'Right now, I am into a lot of bright colours; they really compliment my complexion,' Tiwa says. Flatter your face shapeYour hair is your constant accessory ' the right style flatters your face shape and makes the most of your features. Good hairstyle adds to your overall appearance. Your mood'Fashion is an extension of my character and whatever I put on reflects my mood. So, when I feel being glamorous I wear something glamorous, if I feel relaxed I put on flat shoes. Basically, fashion is an extension of one's personality', she teaches. Work out and stay positiveDifferent celebs, different beauty secrets; Tiwa believes real beauty comes when you feel great about yourself. 'I found out that it is only when I am happy inside that people see the extra glow in me. So, I try as much as possible to stay positive and connected with God for true happiness, 'she says. And on her skin, 'I don't spend much on beauty products, I use dermatological products on my face, and do a lot of workouts.' Shop as hobbyTiwa loves shopping and could shop anywhere. ' I love boutiques because you find great gems there that you would rarely find other people wear,' she says. BE guiltyWhen it comes to perfume, Tiwa is hooked on Guilty by Gucci. It got to be designersBeing a celebrity has lots of perks, but nothing is more awesome than having amazing designer's wardrobe. Tiwa reveals, 'I do mix and match, I shop at designer's shops and anywhere I can find nice clothes. I do eat Indomie noodles for two months to save up to buy a designer product I fancy.' However, the singer has also been spotted among local designers like Bridge Awosika and Toju Foyeh. Body art rocksSometimes, the best accessory is one you wear on your own skin. 'I recently fell in love with body art, so, I now have three,' Tiwa discloses. Don't go for trends, let it suit youShe advises, 'I would say, do not buy expensive stuff just because it's the trend. It's good to mix high street brands with designer's pieces. Our local designers are also good.' Fall in love with bagsFashion handbags are one of the things that top ladies' shopping list. Bags are a-must-have accessory that complement your overall look; no wonder Tiwa loves her bags. She consider her bags as her most prized fashion item.
